Guide on how to dry clothes quickly

Clothes drying methods harmful to health

There are certain ways of drying clothes that people frequently use without realizing that they can negatively impact health. Below are some drying methods to avoid.

Drying clothes in the shade

A common drying mistake that many people make is drying clothes indoors. Many believe that drying this way will naturally dry them without harming the garments, but that’s not true.

Drying in the shade requires specific temperature, humidity, and airflow conditions. Especially on days with high humidity, rainy weather, or no wind, the lack of air circulation can cause clothes to take longer to dry and develop an unpleasant odor. This may also lead to the growth of bacteria and mold on the clothes, which can be harmful to the skin and even the respiratory system when inhaled.

Clothes drying methods harmful to health

Leaving clothes in the washing machine overnight

Some families have the habit of running the washing machine the night before and hanging the clothes out to dry in the morning. The environment inside the drum is damp and warm, which creates conditions conducive to bacterial growth. Studies have shown that in wet and unventilated conditions, bacteria can multiply 3 to 4 times faster than normal.

Therefore, leaving clothes in the washing machine for too long can make them even dirtier than if they hadn't been washed at all. It is best to hang clothes up to dry immediately after washing.

Hanging clothes overnight outdoors

Hanging clothes outside overnight can expose them to dew, which may allow harmful moisture to seep into the fabric and promote mold growth. Clothes contaminated with dew can deteriorate more quickly, leading to faster damage.

Hanging clothes Inside-Out

Many people have the habit of hanging clothes inside-out to avoid fading, but this is actually a mistaken practice. The inside of the fabric comes into contact with the skin, and if it inadvertently comes into contact with dirt, insects, or insect hairs while hanging, it could cause skin irritation.

Effective Clothes Drying Methods According to Japanese Experts

If you have a spacious and well-ventilated area for drying clothes, it's quite simple: just hang the clothes spaced apart. However, in cases where the drying area is tight and clothes must be hung closely together, the following arrangement can help you dry clothes more quickly.

Effective Clothes Drying Methods According to Japanese Experts

  • First, do not hang long and short clothes separately, nor separate materials that dry quickly and those that dry slowly.
  • Use the arch hanging method, meaning to place long clothes on both ends of the rack and short clothes in the middle. The advantage of hanging in an arch shape is it improves ventilation efficiency (as shared by expert Izumi Onuki, who has over 20 years of experience in the laundry and sanitation field in Japan).

If possible, use a dryer, as it also helps clothes dry quickly and sterilizes them just as effectively as drying in sunlight. If you don't have a dryer, you can use a drying cabinet, which is also very effective on rainy, humid days.

Some Tips for Effective Clothes Drying

To dry clothes effectively while maintaining their color, brightness, and fragrance, the following tips will be helpful:

Một số mẹo giúp phơi quần áo hiệu quả hơn

  • Separate dark clothes from bright white clothes: When drying, make sure to keep dark-colored garments away from bright white ones.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for brightly colored clothes: Do not hang vividly colored clothes directly in the sunlight, as UV rays can cause fabrics to wear down and colors to fade quickly.
  • Keep bright white clothes away from dusty areas: Bright white clothes should not be hung in places with a lot of dust, as damp fabric can easily attract dirt, and lighter fabrics can become stained more easily.
  • Hang delicate fabrics in a shady area: Materials such as silk, chiffon, and wool should be dried in a cool, shaded place.
  • Dry woolen clothes horizontally: Wool garments should be laid flat on the drying rack or hung from the underside of a hanger. Wool fibers have high absorbency, and if hung traditionally after washing, the weight can stretch the fibers, causing the clothes to lose their shape.
  • Keep lingerie and baby clothes separate: Lingerie and infant clothes should be dried in separate areas from other clothing. Lingerie should not be hung inside-out to prevent bacteria infiltration.
  • Avoid overnight drying outdoors: Do not hang clothes outside overnight to avoid exposure to rain, wind, and dew.
  • Rewash clothes with unpleasant odors: If your clothes still have an unpleasant smell after drying, the best solution is to wash them again.

This is all the information that Thai Tuan LMS would like to share with you about effective clothes drying. We hope you find this information useful!
