Date Submitted: 16/09/2024

Linen plays a vital role in enhancing guests' experience while staying. For each hotel segment—3, 4, or 5 stars—the standards for selecting linen, including material, color, and style, vary. In the following article, Thai Tuan LMS will provide you with useful information about linen in hotels and insights from hotel managers!

What types of linens are there in hotels?

Linen (or textiles) in hotels include all types of fabric materials found within the hotel. For easier management and selection, hotel linens are typically divided into the following categories:

types of linens are there in hotels

  • Bedroom textiles: bed linens, pillows, pillow covers, duvet covers, bed sheets, decorative bed throws, bathrobes, various towels, washcloths, hand towels, hair-wrap towels, bath mats, curtains…
  • Restaurant (F&B) linens: napkins, tablecloths, dish towels, aprons, chair covers, gloves, dishcloths…
  • Staff uniforms
  • Curtains: window curtains, bathroom curtains
  • Decorative items: carpets, decorative pillow covers, decorative tablecloths…

The quantity of fabric items varies depending on the hotel segment. Typically, 4- to 5-star hotels have almost all of the mentioned fabric items.

Criteria of choice linens in the hotel

According to housekeeping experts, when selecting linens for hotels, certain criteria should be considered:

Choose materials suitable for each type of product

The fabric material is the top priority because it affects the lifespan, durability, and aesthetics according to its intended use. It’s best to prioritize fabrics that are durable, absorbent, easy to wash and iron, and comfortable for the users.

Some common fabrics used in hotels include cotton, linen, polyester, etc.

  • 100% cotton provides a soft feel but is more expensive and less durable, so it’s usually not chosen for hotel linens.
  • Four- to five-star hotels typically use T300 fabric.
  • Three-star hotels use T250 fabric.
  • One- to two-star hotels use T200 fabric.

So what are T300, T250, and T200 fabrics like? The details will be revealed at the end of the article!

Brand

The brand also influences the choice of linens in hotels. Four- to five-star hotels and upscale resorts generally require products from reputable brands. Some quality linen brands today include: Casani, Amani…

Choosing a good linen brand helps ensure material safety and customer comfort when using hotel linens.

Style - Color

Each hotel has its style, standards, and brand identity. Opt for simple, elegant, and sophisticated designs that highlight the space while still being practical for guests.

The color of the fabrics should harmonize with the overall color scheme of the room. It’s best to use neutral or soft pastel colors to create a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere for guests.

Fabrics T300, T250, T200, do you know them?

As mentioned earlier, each hotel segment has its fabric standards. Here are the specific details:

T300 Cotton – 100% Cotton (300 yarn/square inch)

T300 cotton

100% cotton is the highest-quality fabric for hotel linens. Since it consists of 100% cotton fibers, it offers excellent moisture absorption, breathability, comfort, and is friendly to the skin. Hence, T300 cotton - 100% is priced higher.

T300 Fabric – 80% Cotton + 20% Polyester

This fabric is recommended by experts and is the most commonly chosen fabric for four- to five-star hotels.

T300 fabric with 80% cotton still ensures good moisture absorption and breathability. It is less wrinkled and more durable than 100% cotton fabric due to the 20% polyester content.

T250 – Fabric for Three-Star Hotels

T250 – Fabric for Three-Star Hotels

T250 fabric (65% cotton and 35% polyester) is the standard fabric for three-star hotels. While the T250 lacks the softness and smoothness of the T300, it has the advantage of being less wrinkled, glossy, and more durable.

T200 Fabric (50% Cotton + 50% Polyester)

T200 Fabrics

T200, also known as CVC fabric, is suitable for budget one- to two-star hotels. With a composition of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, this fabric is highly resistant to wrinkles, long-lasting, and much cheaper than the other fabrics mentioned.

Hotel linens are a key factor in enhancing the quality of service for guests and also contribute to customer evaluations of hotels. Therefore, selecting the right linen that meets standards is essential for all hotel staff and managers to understand.

This is the detailed information that Thai Tuan LMS wants to share with you about hotel linens. We hope the information provided will be useful for everyone.
